I have always had a difficult time determining what genre of art my style fits into. Through the help of my artistic mother and sister (published author) I have put together a definition that describes my art, it is called Counterpoint Art, originating from musical melodies and harmonies.
COUNTERPOINT ART
A Definition; Musical Counterpoint is the art of combining melodic lines. This involves consideration of the individual melodies and attention to their interaction as they unfold together through time. Applying this musical definition to art and painting would translate into the following definition for Counterpoint Art. Objects and or subjects in a painting are opposing qualities that work at different levels in constant counterpoint, animating the potential connections yet emphasizing all the while that each image is a separate entity.The images in Counterpoint paintings may appear exacting and precise, yet many of them are composites from a number of sources or merely triggered by an image which the artist then customizes to make his/her own. Their purpose is to let the viewer delight in the mastery of illusion and to trigger associations beyond those of the original source.The images are taken from their original context and put to work in new configurations. Their fragmented quality is part of a larger whole that is encouraged to communicate through possible association.
And full circle to musical counterpoint we have unity in variety: each voice singing its own melody and still harmonizing with every other voice.Megan is always trying new styles and techniques, henceforth her artwork is ever evolving and changing. On these pages you will see a great variety of artwork, but a distinct style that is all her own.
