I've been taking digital photos since 1998, and I'm fascinated with city scenes around me. I've taken images in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where I live, as well as Madison, Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois, Michigan, and other places I've traveled. I have many of these photos on my Web site and some arranged in my flickr sets as well as many available for sale here.

I'm inspired by paintings. Particularly Edward Hopper--his use of emptiness, light, geometry, and the tension in his apparently simple images continue to amaze me. I like impressionist paintings with their patterns of color and emphasis on light. I also learn a great deal from my flickr friends and contacts as well as from going on photowalks.

I'm inspired by stories. I love taking photos where there is an implied story, or where I can invite the viewer to come and sit down or place themselves in the scene.

In developing my own style, I enjoy taking documentary-style shots of places and people. I almost never edit the image out of the camera (not that there is anything wrong with that), and I find I like to take photos of people as they are doing things and interacting. I like to take photos of the everyday beauty of my surroundings.

My freelance digital photography of city scenes in Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago has been used by several organizations for print and online display. My photographs have been exhibited in Light Ideas Gallery in Milwaukee and published in Milwaukee Magazine and The Shepherd Express.

My Internet information efforts date back to 1992, and my writing includes published academic journal articles, chapters, magazine articles, and books covering HTML, Java, and computer-mediated communication. I have given presentations about the Internet and online communication to a variety of audiences worldwide and have taught college-level courses in computer science, expository writing, computer-mediated communication, and creative writing. I developed software and graphical user interfaces to analyze requirements for aircraft missions at Boeing's military division. My poetry has been published in literary magazines including Mid-American Review, Sou'wester, Passages North, and others.
