Imagekind Featured Artist of the Day on July 16, 2009

My artistic ability is a God-given gift. That is a humbling thought, a great responsibility, and a tremendous source of joy. Since gifts should be shared and not hoarded, I seek to produce something of beauty that reflects my spirit and the God who gave me the gift.

My style is eclectic. I do not allow the “rules” to bind me. By that I mean that even though the principles that guide each medium are important, I do not allow them to restrict me. For me, that negates the very soul of artistic freedom. I let the subject matter and the medium dictate the “style” employed.

In painting, I work mainly in acrylic and watercolor. I employ a diverse approach, trying everything from traditional washes with sable brushes to patterns made with plastic wrap. I work either from one of my photos where my senses have "mapped" the location, or from my mind’s eye, conjuring up an image I wish existed.

In photography, I am drawn to both classic compositions and unusual angles. I also love to get in close to see the patterns and colors at play on my subject.

My art reflects my internal mix of the traditional and the experimental. The rest is flying pigments and pixels.

Thanks for taking the time to browse through my work. I hope you find something of beauty that you want for yourself. If you have any questions (or if you are interested in purchasing an original painting), please e-mail me at gbensonart@integrity.com
