Description Original Reproduction, Late Bronze Age (LBA), Late Minoan I (LM I) Period, Late Cycladic I (LC I) Period, Painted sometime before ~1615 BC, Akrotiri, Thera (Santorini), Greece. The focus of this closeup view of the Miniature Frieze 'Flotilla' Fresco is the island of Thera on the left side of the composition. This is a contemporary view of the ringed island before the great Bronze Age eruption of the Santorini marine volvano. It clearly shows an inner island ringed by water in the middle of the caldera with a large palace complex dominating the scene.
W. Sheppard Baird, . Member Since December 2008 Artist Statement While best known as a scholar of Aegean Prehistory and the author of "The Minoan Psychopath" I've brought my artistic talents to bear in order to create a gallery of some of the wonderful artwork of the ancient Bronze Age Minoans. Many of these works are rarely seen in their full originally reconstructed and especially their precisely restored glory by the scholars and public alike. My primary motivation is to bring them to the attention of the public and students so they can be better appreciated for the masterpieces they are.
