Dane.A.Cortez . Member Since September 2009 Artist Statement Everything in my gallery can be described as 'wild'. My work reflects intense and evocative, with a tactile sensation and a fierce personality. Spiky, frantic black ink lines are paired with limited bursts of fiery colour, and my subjects are often Gods or Goddess like muscular figures, with harsh yet feminine white painted faces to symbolize both purity and mystery. With lavish roses and flowers comes exotic female animals including wild cats that gives strength and that hidden power of mother nature. But my displays of strength are also accompanied by themes of vulnerability and sensuality, suggesting something far more psychologically complex than any mere power fantasy. This idea can be summed up in my recurring motif of the rose--highly prevalent in "Virginity" - a flower loved for its sweet scent and delicate petals, and feared for its sharp thorns. My Virginity suggests that the two ideas are not so mutually exclusive.
