Kay Reinke, New Braunfels, TX Member Since October 2008 Artist Statement Kay Reinke
Art has been a part of my life since I began painting at the age of 12. In my early years I studied at The Houston Museum of Fine Art and the Texas Art Institute. When I began my teaching career, my painting was done rather sporadically. Now I am happy that is painting is a significant part of my everyday life. Painting has always been an exciting experience to me. The mixing of creamy oil paints and the application of vibrant colors provide a sensual experience. Sometimes I use my fingers to add a tactile element to my painting. I want my paintings to suggest experiences and feelings in a way that sparks viewers’ imagination. This happens through color and the effect of light on the subject matter. I love painting and photographing the beauty of Texas, particularly the powerful coastal waters and the incredible hill county. The deserts and mesas of the Southwest also inspire me. It is my belief that art is evidence of God’s willingness to let us share with him in the expression of the beauty and majesty of our world.
