Sharon Kingston, Bellingham Member Since December 2009 Artist Statement Sharon Kingston is an emerging artist working primarily in the medium of oil paint. She works in both a representational and abstract style always with the desire to simplify and reduce so that the minimal amount of visual clues are left to impart her intentions. Simplicity does not equate to flatness, however. Through layering and glazing of transparent colors, Sharon takes complex and chaotic beginnings and transforms them into nuanced shapes of color. In some of her works, these shapes are evocative of landscapes with a horizon line separating the bottom and top fields of color. In other works, her compositions are more suggestive of what Sharon calls innerscapes or interiors with portals, doors, entrances and exits. Her works suggest an attempt to balance between inner and outer worlds, to modify an underlying state of complexity and to coax a simple beauty out of it all.
Sharon Kingston studied visual art and art education and has shared her passion for the arts with elementary age children as a youth art instructor for the past 5 years. She is currently resident artist, gallery director and art instructor at her studio/gallery Works on Canvas. Her paintings are held in private collections in the USA.
