Description You are looking at the summer Milky Way among the pine trees atop Mt. Pinos, near Frazier Park. Mt. Pinos is the highest point in Ventura County, and one of the most popular spots near Los Angeles for star gazing. At 8,847 feet (2,697 m) and north of the city, the skies are clearer and have less light pollution. Many people showed up on this evening to gaze at the stars in the parking lot because it was a moonless night, perfect for viewing the Milky Way and the various other stars, and many had telescopes out. My girlfriend and I walked into the forest a little further to get away from the crowds.
