Artist Statement The artist, particularly the painter, is he who expresses with major authenticity the environment that surrounds him and the society to which he belongs.
The people, the landscapes, the human events, as well as the events in the nature in their diverse times and spaces are transformed by the painter, through the vital activity as the painting.
In almost all of the American countries, the artistic expression is normally ordered by periods that conform in accordance with certain identities. In Ecuador we can refer to three periods: the pre-colonial period, the colonial period, and the beginning of the Republic, the modern period. The three have been interpreted with certainty by Ecuadorian painters with great artistic expression.
In the last generation, between the three mentioned above, we find Jamie Obando Benavides, a painter with great vitality and artistic projection whose works are a representation of Ecuadorian Culture with mud and clay passing through the Andean landscapes, including epic paintings, in which we find a good technique and appropriate color combined with expressive force. Jamie Obando has not remained in the same place since his initial achievements, instead, his most recent creations combine a work more original each time with great expressive richness of the drawing and color, and all with a good sense of depth that gives life to the characters of his creation. It is a pleasure for me that this Ecuadorian artist of great value gives us the satisfaction, to enjoy his latest works. I hope that the people who view his artwork will experience the same emotion and will feel drawn to it by the keen observation and technique that his paintings have.
