Description It's interesting how art evolves from the beginning of the planning stage throughout the process of actually creating the work. This piece originally came about when I stumbled upon a song while downloading music from iTunes. I love it when things happen like that! Anyway, the song is called 'Eve, the Apple of my Eye' by Bell X1. I strongly encourage you to listen to it with this painting in mind; there is a deep connection between the visual aspect of the painting and the lyrics and music of the song. You'll notice that the pose is quite classical, and the deep shadows are reminiscent of some Renaissance painters (especially Caravaggio), but this is a very modern piece, loosely constructed in some areas, more defined in others. I really wanted to capture a rawness and earthiness in the figures-there is a narrative happening between these two people. The actual technique I used here was integral to achieving that earthiness-about 95% of the piece was painted with just my fingers. I used brushes only to lay in small details on the figures.
