DescriptionThe North American Bald Eagle rendered entirely out of recycled magazines. I use the colors of the paper much like paint and cut whatever shape is needed for each area. It can take multiple layers and a lot of patience to achieve a final result that I am happy with. The Bald Eagle is America's national bird and a well recognized symbol of patriotism and freedom. It is also considered a sacred bird by many North American cultures. Its feathers are very important to Native American religious and spiritual customs. The eagle is a symbol of peace to the Native Americans because of it's direct contact with the upper world of the sun.The image of the Bald Eagle can be found on seals, logos, stamps and U.S currency. It appears on most official seals of the U.S. government, including the Great Seal of the United States and the Seal of the President of the United States.
Shawna Rowe Member Since July 2012 Artist Statement I grew up in a creative family who loved photography, music, art and random hiking adventures. That helped me to develop a love for nature and artistic expression early on. I've never limited myself to one particular medium but I do favor graphic shapes, bold colors and whimsical style. Whatever the medium, I try to include some or all of those elements in my work.
My family has always been a big inspiration and they feature in a series of satirical cartoons that I've done just for fun over the years. Each year I make a new cartoon to celebrate each of my daughter's birthdays. I've also made my own greeting cards for family members over the years.
Lately, I've been making detailed magazine collages. Each one is made of 100% recycled paper cut into tiny shapes and carefully applied much like paint onto canvas. It's an art-form that requires a lot of time and patience but I love this unusual way of creating. Thank you for visiting my gallery!
