Kenn Bird, Austin, Texas Member Since October 2008 Artist Statement As a commercial and fine art photographer I've had some wonderful experiences and actively participated with many people and traveled many a location that I would possibly never had seen under other circumstances.
I've had the rare opportunity to visit with many of my mentors and early influences such as Duane Michaels, Richard Avedon, Joel Peter-Witkin, and yes; I had my fifteen minutes with Andy Warhol at lunch one day. As Mr. Michaels taught me, "everything falls under the 3 B's", Beautiful,Boring, and Bizarre!
I have mastered several difficult printmaking processes along the way. These include silver gelatin black&white, dye transfer, pigment transfer, and finally digital printmaking.
Traditional, chemical-only printing and photography is inherently incapable of rendering a wide range of subject matters with superb quality.
Beyond all of that are a myriad of other kinds of control, available only with digital imaging, that also work to give a two-dimensional print the strength to compare favorably with the beauty of the original scene, with its three-dimensionality, exquisite detail, perfect color, and naturally unproblematic tonality.
