Blue Bliss, New York City
Member Since December 2008
Artist Statement Blue Bliss spent some of her formative years in Baltimore and then in Pittsbugh, where she majored in glassblowing and painting at Carnegie-Mellon University. Heading west after college to seek adventure, she travelled extensively and sowed her wild oats while living in various locations throughout the western US. Then partnering with another artist, she became an art carny, painting giant murals for carnival ride fronts and theme parks in California and Texas. After taking a year off to teach herself computer graphics, she re-emerged as a graphic designer, illustrator, photographer and animator, producing projects for numerous clients including NASA, SeaWorld, Hasbro, MTV, and Johns Hopkins. Her favorite project was working as an assistant lead animator on the feature film “A Scanner Darkly”, starring Robert Downey Jr., after which she moved to New York City. During all this time she also painted many portrait commissions and sold other paintings through galleries in Texas and California. She has produced many solo works and has also collaborated with artists Indigo Rocket, John Mint and Marcus Mars. While she is equally comfortable painting by hand and on the computer, these days she works mainly digitally, and is currently creating animated shorts and a series of LumiNocturnes, exploring the mystery and magic of New York City at night.
