DescriptionPond hockey is one of the truly great things about Canadian winter. Indoor ice hockey is great, but, it can't compare to the pure, unrestrained power and beauty of hockey played on a frozen pond. Pond hockey requires no referee or league fees, only minimal equipment, a few pucks and not much more.
After a long absence from Canada, I had forgotten how stunning the mountains could be. I was thoroughly enjoying the wintertime mountain scenery when I rounded a corner and this scene opened up before my eyes. I immediately stopped the car, grabbed my camera and 20mm lens and moved in close. Too focused on their game to acknowledge my presence, the players continued to play. The light was fading, but with a slow enough shutter speed, I was able to capture the scene.
Please note that there is some motion blur in the photo and quite a bit of visible film grain.
Dennis Flood Member Since August 2008 Artist Statement I grew up in a small rural village in Canada; open space and quiet are definitely things that I can't get enough of. Strangely enough, I moved away from that and eventually landed in Taiwan, one of the world's most densely populated corners. Overwhelmed by the strange and wonderful new world around me, I began to shoot photographs. Many thousands of photos later, I've noticed some striking patterns in my photos – here are some of them in no particular order.
* I like nature * I like bicycles * I like the ordinary * I'm drawn to the familiar, and appreciate the subtle differences * I'm drawn to the grossly different, unique and foreign * I seem to like laying on the ground to take photos
Neither this ImageKind gallery or my full photo website are by any means a complete archive of my photos; both offer a small sampling of the photos that I've taken during my adventures, my travels and my everyday life. The vast majority of the photos here are available for licensing - a smaller number are available in print form if you're so moved. I encourage you to contact me for more information if you're interested.
Thanks for taking the time to look and to read. Happy travels.
