Description I've been to Normandy twice. The first time, I went on a paid tour of the American sector in which I learned in three hours than in years of studying and reading about it. The second time I visited, despite having learned so much the first time, I still felt compelled to see the same sights again, instead of exlploring areas that I hadn't seen the first time. One of the places I made sure to visit again was the American cemetery behind Omaha Beach. I had to pay my respects to the men and women who fought and died in France in 1944.
As I made my way around the cemetery, I came across the gravesite you see here. There was something about it, something that I can't quite place my finger on or put into words, that just struck me. Whenever I look at this photograph, some of those feelings come back, which is not a bad thing.
