You tell me it won't matter that I'm past the bloom of youth, that beauty of the flesh is less remarkable than truth, and all my years of living bring a wisdom hard to find; the proof of love's not in the face, but centered in the mind.
Your words a certain comfort bring but still I'm in suspense 'til I can truly know if what I bring is recompense for that which I no longer am, and nevermore shall be: a woman wrapped in winsome charms of girlish mystery.
And all the good intentions of a heart prepared to love are no one's guarantee that what it finds will be enough. All my inner beauty, all my honesty, my wit may not ignite the spark from which undying passion's lit.
But hopeful still, I clasp your words close to my pounding heart, prepared to show you everything I carry from the start. Do grant forgiveness if I tremble as I search your eyes for evidence of disenchanted dreams you can't disguise. 2012 RC deWinter
