Description This abstract close-up photo was captured last summer in Asbury Park, NJ. There was something here that intrigued me, it had a personality of it's own but I couldn't quite figure out what it was. I found that by cropping in tight that it made the metal seem denser and there was a weighty movement going on. This was the quality I was after so I shot it as you see here.
Steve Herman, New York Member Since September 2007 Artist Statement
Steve Lewis Herman was born in Washington DC and grew up in Potomac, MD. Over the years, he was exposed to many forms of art and was influenced by his Aunt and Grandmother, both of whom were artists. He began his art career at 3 years old using mixed media (apple sauce, olive juice, crayons and finger nail polish) on freshly painted dry wall. Steve also loved taking things apart and reassembling them in interesting, non-functional ways, much like his father. He loved music and learned guitar and to this day, he is a natural dancer and loves rhythm. Later in life, Mr. Herman quickly adapted to the new computer technology and he now lives in New York City where he enjoys his Vespa, Zootr scooter and anything else that has wheels.
