Description One of a pair of images. I quite enjoy gardening, and so regularly check out the plants on sale at the supermarket. In addition to the standard kitchen herbs, there are a number of seasonal options so the selection changes fairly regularly. One day, they happened to be offering a selection of ready-to-bloom tulips. Normally I pass tulips by, as the flower shape isn't unusual enough for my tastes. I noticed they had some interesting cultivars, however, and one particularly bright orange and yellow bloom caught my eye. The petals had an odd feathery shape, and the coloration resembled flames. I had to have it!So I brought it home, followed the care instructions for my new flowers, and set the blooms where they should get plenty of light. There were still a number of buds on the plants, and I expected a nice slow bloom over the course of a couple weeks. Which would give me plenty of time to do some nice still-life studies with them.Well, they exploded! Just a couple days later, my tidy tulips had opened into large, showy blossoms that didn't resemble normal tulips at all! Quite surprised, and fearing their longevity, I set up a photo shoot, and spent a long night photographing them from every angle, with various backdrops and lighting setups, trying to capture the sculptural quality of the petals and get fitting reference for my paintings. They did last a bit longer then I feared, but not as long as I originally expected. I may be able to get another bloom out of the bulbs after winter passes, but that bright, brief show is likely all that will result from my purchase. At the very least, I got some nice photos, and brilliant memories from the experience.

These days I have my own camera, and my adventures reach far greater distances then those summer camping trips of my childhood. I've also learned to use image editing programs to improve the look of my images, and better convey what I was feeling through the lens.
I do many other kinds of art, and photography is far from my only interest. If you are interested in other art from me, it can be found at
