Artist Statement My name is Steve Berardi, and I currently live in California. I’ve always had a great interest in natural history, and about a year ago I decided to buy my first SLR camera.

I think of myself as a naturalist first, and a photographer second. The camera is just a great way to capture all that wonderful light I come across.

I love to hike in the Mojave Desert, or San Gabriel mountains, and I usually bring along my camera and tripod. My favorite place to photograph is the desert, because it’s such an extreme environment, and people usually think of it as a brown, desolate place. But, in reality, it’s full of wonderful color and contrast: I love finding these colors on my long aimless hikes.
