Heather King, Ottawa, Ontario Member Since October 2010 Artist Statement Heather King is a self taught artist/photographer who uses her inspirational vision of the world to transform the awkwardness, pain and insanity of life into something uniquely original and peculiarly beautiful.
She fled from her birth city, the city of decay, Windsor, Ontario. She now calls the natural beautiful of our nation's capital home. Having moved from city to city never finding 'home' has been a source of Heather's inspiration. Generally leaning towards a darker side of photography she says "I do it to shock people, to wake them up and to make them aware of what is really going on 'out there'."
Carrying a camera by her side, for as long as she can remember, Heather finds that capturing this turmoil focuses attention on the outside instead of the inside. It brings her a sense of calm and peace.
Transposing her photography by layering one on top of the other is that brings the unique edge to her work. Very little if any manipulation rarely takes place. Expressive art is not a technique or a learned skill, it's a form of artistic design that just happens. One can be inspired by an overwhelming sensation of premonition. "I sit and lose myself in the photo and I find when I'm done I have created multiple layers of photographs using textures and layers which eventually turn into a masterpiece."
With 11 public showings of her photography under her belt, one in Windsor and 10 in Ottawa, she has gained considerable insight on what elements of her work are most appreciated by her clients. Heather looks forward to a future filled with beauty, nature, love and light while embracing the possibilities of the artistic whispers within.
