David Bollinger, Stockton, CA Member Since July 2007 Artist Statement My work tends towards abstract, surreal and sometimes whimsical explorations of imagined shapes and spaces. Labyrinthine forms, topological complexity and spatial ambiguity abound in works intended as playgrounds for the mind.
As an artist/programmer I am fascinated by simple systems that produce complex results. Such systems are often called "emergent", "genetic" or "evolutionary", though these terms aren't always well-defined.
If you had to find one long jumbled string of words that would summarize all of these works, perhaps you might choose "neo-conceptual generative process-art works" -- though few use such terms in daily conversation. Essentially, code is the artistic medium, and the works are generated through the execution of that code.
Thus, I craft the code with specific goals in mind, but the program crafts the work itself. Each resulting image is then a unique expression of both coding and execution.
