Description Lealias come in a range of colors and subtle variations. They are closely related and often crossed with other varities until the scientific names become unpronouncable. So this may actually be a lealia-cattleya or some other cross but to me it has the delicate refined lines of a lealia, so that's what I call it.
Joe Vittek, Captain Cook, Hawaii Member Since July 2007 Artist Statement My mother was a painter, my brother is an artist in stained glass. I dabbled in both before discovering the magic of digital imaging. My interest in photography started when I was a child and matured through high school. But then college, job, career and family left no money or time for a personal darkroom, so I pursued other interests for more than 30 years. Then, before my first trip to Hawaii, I purchased a digital camera to record our family adventure and I was hooked. I never could draw but, with the camera and computer, I could create the pictures that had eluded me before.
I begin each work with one or more digital photographs and then I blend, filter and tone until the picture that I want emerges.
My mother succeeded in capturing the realism of the photograph with her brushes. I attempt to capture the feeling of the brushes with my photographs.
I hope you enjoy seeing these images as much as I enjoy producing them.
