Description Paris' Htel de Ville (city hall) in a reproduction of a french aquatint from the 1830s. This is one of the 27 prints contained in the book Collection des Principales Vues de Paris Dessines par Gavard avec le Diagraphe et Graves par les Meilleurs Artistes, a collection of views of Paris originally drawn from life using a curious invention of Charles Gavard called the diagraph-pantograph, a sort of sophisticated camera lucida combined with, as the name implies, a pantograph.
Original size 11.12 x 8.08 inches (28,24 x 20,53 cm). Even though the high resolution of the master file (6672 x 4849 pixels) supports an enlargement factor of up to 6, the small size and consequent level of detail of the original itself should be taken into account when considering the larger print sizes. A print size of 22 x 16 inches (medium) is thus recommended.
