Description Driving down Boylston Street in Boston's Back Bay, waiting at a red light I happened to look up and catch this scene through my moon roof. I grabbed the camera and quickly took the shoot before the light turned green. I love the angles, the bright blue sky, and the waving American flag. Something about this scene also reminds me of 9/11 - but in this alternate universe, the skyscraper remains standing, the planes pass by, and 'our flag was still there.'
Allison Shapira, Boston Member Since January 2011 Artist Statement I am inspired by the beauty that exists all around us. From the way the sun shines on a line of laundry in a Berber village in Morocco to a vivid reflection caught in a small puddle of water on a Cambridge side street, life presents ironic, wistful, and breathlessly beautiful moments. My goal is to capture those moments on camera.
Originally from Connecticut, I grew up in Sarasota, Florida and later moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where I have lived and worked for the past 10 years.
In addition to taking pictures, I sing opera and folk music, dance as often as I can, teach public speaking, snowboard, play ultimate Frisbee and climb rocks.
