April Dockery, Grand Rapids Member Since April 2007 Artist Statement I create art simply because I can. Just like everyone breathes air and sleeps at night, I create art. It is a part of my being, helping me to grow, express myself, and inspire others. To not be able to express oneself is inhumane. I hope I give people more of an opportunity to use my art as an outlet for their own emotions. Anger, joy, disappointment, pain, love, appreciation; just a few concepts I use from everyday life to create.
I usually like to create simple pencil drawings. As far back as I can remember I have been creating art using only pencil. Winning awards here and there back in grade school was normal to me. I didn't realize how much of a real talent I had until high school.
After taking Fine Art classes and continually refining my skills I've realized my niche in our society. I want to evoke emotions of every sort, even challenge some boundaries every now and then, heal and inspire; and I've made it one of my many missions in life to do so.
My most recent art-venture is oil painting which provides me with an even greater sense of joy and appreciation for art. Even the artist has to step outside of their box from time to time, but for me, I plan on staying out of that box.
This is my art. I am very proud of my works and that's why I've chosen to share them. Come back often to check out new work and appreciate the old ones.
