Artist Statement My work is about reinterpreting a utilitarian three-dimensional form into a painting, thus creating a new physical object. This objecthood is the ideology behind my current body of work. The paintings have found their place somewhere between representation and abstraction through deletion, isolation and exaggeration, inspired by modern design.

In 2011 Pfleghaar received his MFA in visual arts from the Lesley University College of Art and Design. An exhibition of thesis work will be on display at the Grand Rapids Art Museum titled “Reinforcing Objecthood” in February and March 2012.

During his career, Michael Pfleghaar has received numerous awards and honors for his work, both nationally and regionally. In addition to his artwork being featured in Studio Visit and American Craft Magazines, Pfleghaar’s pieces are in the permanent art collections including the Grand Rapids Art Museum, Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, Steelcase., Neiman Marcus, Herman Miller, and the State of Michigan Governor’s Residence.
