Artist Statement The first thing I ever really took time to paint was a reproduction of Salvador Dali’s “Meditative Rose”. It was an art class in my senior year of high school, and my only prior training had included mimicking my grandmother’s watercolors and being adopted by a a group of graffiti artists a few years prior. I fell in love with the fluidity and color of paint. I can barely draw, but I can mold shapes from tubes of color, and that’s all I can really ask for. Painting calms me. It is the only activity I have that makes my mind clear entirely.

I have an affinity for throwing acrylic. In college I took an art class in which the professor wouldn’t let us use brushes, so I blew paint through straws, I stamped the canvas with bottoms of Starbucks coffee cups, I launched paint across the room using rollers and I returned to the fine art of finger painting. That Jackson Pollock style is by far my favorite to do. But I also love the liveliness in people’s expressions, and the way rose petals reflect light. So I try to return to more realistic styles as well.
Even though painting is so good for my mind, I don’t make enough time for it.
