Benjamin Reed, Clinton Member Since November 2007 Artist Statement I am passionate about photography. I am passionate about portraiture.
Benjamin Reed is the man, the photographer, behind Offbeat Photography. Using offbeat studio or location settings to create portraiture that goes beyond the simple use of a family record, he takes the subject of his focus and creates art.
Richard Avedon is the best modern example of using portraiture as an art form; he primarily used it as a way to capture himself in the faces of the people he photographed, and by doing so created a timeless portfolio of amazing art.
Portraiture isn't just about recording a smile either. Human emotion is extensive, yet so often all that is portrayed in the everyday portrait is that of a smile. And most of the time the smile is fake, plastic, staged. Benjamin uses a series of practiced techniques to bring out those other emotions in his subjects to create endearing artistic portraits.
The series of photographs here is considered to be Benjamin Reed's finest, his best offbeat photography, and is guaranteed to stimulate conversation, provoke thought, and most of all, bring fine art photography into your home and onto your walls.
