Description Possessions is a mixed media sculpture by the late Avonelle Kelsey (1931-2009). No look at Avonelle would be complete without her doll sculptures. They began appearing in the 80s and grew in number and complexity over the years. My guess is that at least half, likely many more, are based on characters from her writing. Others just grew from her finding a base that had an intriguing shape or inspiring color to it.
Kelsey Gallery, Bang Saphan Member Since July 2012 Artist Statement I am an American expat living in Asia. As I have settled in here over the past couple years I have also moved into a new phase of my life, indulging my love of art – a gift that was passed to me by my mother, artist Avonelle Kelsey (1931-2009).
Prior to my mid-life art bender, my life was spent as a zoologist whose career evolved into writing and publishing a series of books, most frequently guidebooks, with a focus on global volunteer travel programs. I believe that how travelers choose to spend their tourism dollars offers a great potential to impact wildlife and global conservation programs – either positively or negatively. Wildlife, street dog care and encouraging true responsible travel will always be a passions of mine, making frequent appearances in my artwork.
