This is a reproduction of my original coloured pencil drawing which was exhibited at the Annual Exhibition of the Society of Botanical Artists 2009.
What I most liked about this was the wonderful play of light on the leaves which really brought home the notion that you can't ever go wrong with green - because every green always goes with every other green. The peony buds - bursting with potential and promise of the blooms to come - were also very impressive. All gallery images copyright: Katherine Tyrrell (all rights reserved)
I have a longstanding commitment to the value of drawing and use of dry media and am particularly interested in the subtleties of colour. I'm stimulated by repetition and variation - by the shapes and patterns I find in the natural world, the structure of objects and places and the way in which light impacts on both colour and form. In relation to places, my preference is to work from life wherever possible and I very much enjoy working "en plein air" and in public places.
Critical acclaim of my artwork focuses on my drawing skills and my use of colour. I exhibit in the UK and overseas and with various national art societies and I have work in private collections in the UK, Australia and the USA.
