Ron Nilson, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mi. Member Since May 2008 Artist Statement For me, there are three elements that make art so compelling: mystery, discovery, and surprise. Every piece is an adventure into the unknown, be it cartoon-like whimsy or of a more serious contemplative nature. I'll go with whatever comes up as long as it touches the emotional core.
Originally from the east coast (New Jersey), I've lived in Michigan for the past 30 plus years. Most of my work experience has involved graphics arts, as a printing press operator, graphic designer, graphics department manager, and marketing account representative.
I have a B.A. in Art & Psychology from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and an M.A. in theology from Trtinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.
While painting abstract subjects has always been my main artistic interest, most of my recent work has been digital. The recent emphasis on art as a tool for spiritual growth has grown out of personal experiences with meditation and Reiki.
Since severing all formal ties with the church, I've continued my own spiritual education and growth, counting Joseph Campbell, Carlos Casteneda, Alan Watts, Richard Hittleman, Barbara Marx Hubbard and Eckhart Tolle as principal influences.
Thanks for taking the time to check out my gallery. The only thing more rewarding than being involved in the process of making art, is being able to share it.
