Description When my children were infants, I would sing to them as I fed them or rocked them to sleep or just to calm them when they were fussy. 'You Are A Masterpiece' (based upon Psalms 139) was a favorite and all three of my girls (two of them now in their teens) still remember very well, me singing it to them; I think well into my youngest daughter's 5th year and even after that they would ask me every once in awhile to sing it to them again. While I was creating this piece (blue being the original color), there appeared to be a warm depth taking form and it began to pull me in and suddenly, as I was swirling and twirling, there appeared a pea sized seed with a string attached to it, on the left hand side. I instantly thought of the Bible verse and the song, so that is where the title of this piece comes from. Here are the beautiful lyrics:'Before you had a name or opened up your eyesor anyone could recognize your face. You were being formed so delicate in size, secluded in God's safe and hidden place. With your little tiny hands and little tiny feetand little eyes that shimmer like a pearl. He breathed in you a song and to make it all complete,He brought the masterpiece into the world. You are a masterpiece,a new creation He has formedand you're as soft and fresh as a snowy winter morn. And I'm so glad that God has given you to me,little Lamb of God, you are a masterpiece. Now you're growing up your life's a miracle.Every time I look at you I stand in awebecause I see in you a reflection of meand you'll always be my little lamb from God.And as your life goes on each dayhow I pray that you will seejust how much your life has meant to me.And I'm so proud of youwhat else is there to say?Just be the masterpiece He created you to be.'
Sandra Jean, Pacific Northwest Member Since March 2008 Artist Statement It's a wonderful gift to be given the freedom to express ourselves through the diverse mediums of art. I believe that a creative spirit dwells within the depths of each human being and that some of the greatest joys in life come from seeking and discovering what our inherent gifts are. And then comes the exhilaration of cultivating and developing those gifts in a way that not only aids us in soulfully defining who we are, but at the same time benefits and touches the lives of others in some positive way. I have always been passionate about the arts and in the past couple of years have discovered the extremely insightful and therapeutic realm of digital painting, graphic design and photography, bouncing from one to the other in subject matter and self development. Always seeking to create and capture something different from what is considered usual and always striving to do better.
On a more personal note, God and my family come before all things. In the arts, music is my first love, I am an avid reader and a lover of the outdoors and nature in all of its vibrant and moody changes and often times my artwork is a reflection of what is currently moving me.
