Marylynne Diggs, Oregon Member Since September 2011 Artist Statement ABOUT STILL WILD PHOTOGRAPHY Hi. I'm Marylynne Diggs, a nature photographer, writer, and teacher living in Oregon. I am in awe of the sheer intensity and diversity of natural beauty in the Pacific Northwest. From high desert sage plateaus, canyon rim rock, temperate rainforests, volcanic blast zones, coastal dunes, productive agricultural spaces, and bountiful urban gardens, Oregon and Washington are a nature photographer's dream. I'm pretty sure you will agree after exploring these galleries.
WHY "STILL WILD"? I am fascinated by the tensions between nature and culture, between people, wildness, and wilderness. The human race is a complex combination of cultivation and wildness. Many of our wildest natural places reveal centuries of human activity. Wildlife, different as it is from the human race, often seems tame and familiar when still and calm in our respectful presence. Even our most cultivated agricultural and urban spaces are sometimes perceptibly wild and uncontainable.
Thus, "Still Wild" is not intended to evoke nostalgia for an untouched wilderness, but to communicate photographically the historical, environmental, and cultural complexity of our natural world. Maybe you will find a place for Still Wild photography on the walls of your home or office.
Signed prints will be coming soon in a separate gallery. These will be available through a special arrangement with me and a Portland printing/framing company used by ImageKind. The signed print gallery will reflect different pricing and will inform buyers of how to arrange a will-call print for me to sign before shipment to the buyer.
Downloads are not available from this site because all photographs in my galleries are protected by copyright and require prior arrangement for duplication and use beyond the printing services provided here. If you want to use a photograph for a particular purpose, please contact me for permission and terms: email@example.com.
