Description Painted during early summer, 2003. 10 x 8 inches, oils on canvas This painting was based upon a view observed during an idyllic early spring walk alongside the River Aude in the hills surrounding the small town of Quillan, located within the region of Languedoc and the foothills of the Pyranees, about an hour or so by train south of Carcassonne and 90 minutes north of Barcelona, Spain. In terms of style, it is an impressionistic work. The buildings bore no greater significance than the simple fact that they fitted their setting perfectly and the whole scene delivered a sense of enchantment.
Artist and photographer Cary Charles depicts sensations and memories in response to observed scenes, people and objects. His work is often characterised by vibrant colours, geometry and powerfully contrasting states of illumination. Subjects and styles evolve, but emphasis on sensation remains constant. Often 'metaphysical' dimensions emerge, intriguing and uplifting, commanding a lasting impression..
Cary has participated in several exhibitions, having first exhibited and sold during preview night at age 17. He has fulfilled many commissions. His vibrant and subjective works are particularly well suited to commissions.
