Description I love the clarity of contrast between earth and sky in the desert.I drove along the very eastern edge of the Arabian peninsula in Oman, down from Sur to Qumaylah. South of Sur, the Ramalat al Wahaybah meets up with the coast. The main road runs along the rim of a bluff overlooking the ocean. On the beaches below it's possible to see tracks in the sand left by nesting turtles. Eventually, the shifting sands of the desert come right to the water, sometimes obliterating parts of the road.My little sisters and I had fun playing in the sand dunes--my sisters were especially happy to be out of the car! It was an extraordinarily windy day. I wrapped my headscarf around my face to protect my eyes and nose, but I couldn't protect my hands and ankles from being stung by the sand whipping across the dunes. Despite the intense sun, the sand was quite cool. We all took off our shoes to climb the dunes and slide down them.
