Steve Newcombe, Appleton, Wisconsin Member Since May 2008 Artist Statement Hi,
I could spend your time telling you my story but, at the end of the day, who really cares. It’s what lies ahead that interests me. I will, however, tell you this: pushing paint around has been a welcome antidote to years of living in the precise world of computer graphics. It is simply fun!
And now I have the extraordinary opportunity to blend this newfound joy with my fascination with the coastal areas of western Canada, the American northwest as well as the subtleties of the midwest. Both areas are of wondrous scale, incredible subtlety and powerful contrasts. Light and shadow chase each other across vast plains of water, up and over massive rock cliffs, through dense forests and over "table top" fields . My paintings try to chronicle that chase and all that it reveals.
