George Jones, Omaha Member Since July 2009 Artist Statement Hello and welcome to my gallery. After more than a few years of chasing the 'big story’ (and some little ones) in print and broadcast photojournalism I’ve taken to concentrating on some of the details I missed while on the clock. I never imagined I’d get such a kick out of photographing birds and bugs but that’s where I am today!
I greatly admire the work of Wynn Bullock, Eliot Porter, Jerry Uelsmann, Helmut Newton, and Guy Bourdin among others. To this day I treasure the lessons I learned from Lumir Malimanek. Don’t bother googling him, you will probably find very little but he knew his way around a camera.
I also remember when it was easy to be smarter than your camera. That’s a bit more of a challenge these days but it boils down to your eye and sensibilities. The name on the box in which your camera was delivered doesn’t matter as much as some would have you think.
Please enjoy viewing my ‘foto graphically fine art’ as much as I enjoy creating it.
