Description The letters R S V P are in bedded in the piece; thus the title. Positive and negative shape interplay is the main feature for me in this piece. Of course the viewer brings their own interpretation to the subject. The painting is done with oil and oil pastel on canvas.
Blaney Harris, Ledyard, CT Member Since July 2010 Artist Statement Lately I have been working more and more from my imagination; relying less on reference material. Paintings and drawings from my imagination have a more personal stamp to them. The paintings in the Westerns Gallery are a good example of this. I still enjoy working in a variety of mediums including pencil, watercolor, charcoal and pastels. My background in at-sea navigation, inspired by my 20 years in the Navy, and my appreciation of Naval history, has led me to paint oil paintings featuring the large sailing vessels of the past. Additionally, my paintings have been especially noted for their spectacular settings and treatment of light. Six of my works, including "New London Waterfront", have appeared on the Showtime series "Brotherhood".
