Description A retro futuristic cityscape that combines 'streamlined moderne' art deco architecture with pulp science fiction illustration of the 1930's. The buildings are inspired by the great architectural renderings of Hugh Ferriss and the airplane was modeled after industrial designer Norman Bel Geddes 1929 plans for 'Airliner Number 4,' a 9-deck amphibian airliner that incorporated areas for deck-games, an orchestra, a gymnasium, a solarium, and two airplane hangars.
Andy Lackow, NYC Area Member Since August 2010 Artist Statement Andy Lackow, an illustrator in the New York metropolitan area for over 30 years, uses high-end 3D software to create award-winning computer generated 3D illustration and animation. He has achieved national recognition for his work in the advertising, entertainment, publishing, interactive and Internet based industries. His style could be best summed up as photo-realism with attention to fine detail and a touch of whimsy. Andy's work fuses the technical with the imaginary, often to dazzling effect. One of his specialties is "retro- futurism," the future as it was imagined in the bygone era of mid 20th Century optimism. His illustration imagery includes fantastic cityscapes and landscapes, science fiction and fantasy, architectural rendering and industrial design.
Andy was known prior to his involvement with 3D computer generated illustration for his intricate, beautiful and often wacky airbrush illustrations. He used various paint media such as watercolor dyes, gouache and acrylics through an airbrush combined at times with colored pencil and paint brush on illustration board.
Andy's illustrations have adorned the covers and interiors of many well known national magazines, newspapers, books, albums, CD cases as well as billboards and subway and bus advertising, television ads and graphics for the web. A partial list of clients include Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, New York Magazine, Forbes, Rolling Stone, Disney, MTV, Sony Music, NBA, NFL, IBM, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Anheuser-Busch, Smirnoff, Burger King, Wendy's, General Foods, General Motors, Chase Bank and the New York State Lottery.
Andy also has a cartoon style and has designed many humorous T-Shirts using that particular style. All of his styles will be available in Andy's various Imagekind galleries and his storefront.
