Susan Van Sant, Grand Rapids Member Since July 2011 Artist Statement Hello everyone. Thank you for stopping by! My name is Susan Van Sant and I have been creating art (professionally at least) for the last 7 years. Before then I was dreaming of it. I have gone by many names and forms. I started out as "Some Unknown Entity" aka s.u.e. as I dabbled in the darkest reaches of my psyche to expel the demons of my past. From there I was "Canvas Menagerie," painting portraits of peoples pets (dogs mainly.)
I love painting everything, but one common theme that keeps standing out in my artwork are faces of women. Not just any woman either. Me. or You. The queen in all of us. What is your totem? Are you a mermaid? Did you grow wings and fly away? Do you connect with bears? or dragons? What rules your heart? At least, for me, my moods change each day. And this is what I do. I paint portraits of myself/yourself in all our many moods and forms. It makes me happy. This world is my world and my world is now your world. Please stop by again. I welcome you to follow along with me on my journey. There is much more to come.
