Ruined Hall

This photo was taken in an off-limits section of Ta Prohm, which one of the tour guides sneakily allowed us to visit.

Ta Prohm

Ta Prohm is one of Cambodia's most famous temples, having been featured in the Tomb Raider movie. It's structures and ruins blend perfectly with the jungle itself.

Gateway

Countless gateways, windows, and portals appear throughout Cambodia's beautiful temples, sharing a glimpse of the past.

Window of Light

This doorway was illuminated as I passed. I anticipate creating photo manipulations with this image, but it's quite nice on its own as well.

Earthen Apsara

The many Apsaras and deities represented on the stone and moss walls greet you as you pass.

Ruined Entrance

Taken around the back side of Beng Mealea, one of Cambodia's less traveled temples, throughout which young Khmer children gave us a guided tour.

Apsara Corner

It's hard to imagine the amount of time and energy expended to craft these detailed Apsara images.

Stone Apsara

Apsaras are spirits of the clouds and water in Hindu and Buddhist mythology. They are quite abundant in many of Cambodia's ruined temples.

Preah Ko

Preah Ko, built in 879CE, is a temple dedicated to Shiva. The three towers represent Shiva's bull Nandi, his vehicle.

Vines

The vines and temple structures in Cambodia often have a symbiotic relationship. Without the vines, many walls would now crumble, and vice versa.

Sun Soaked Ruin

Beng Mealea, one of Cambodia's more rarely visited temples, is probably also one of its least structurally sound. One must travel along constructed bridges, and stay wary of areas that have collapsed completely.

Lolei Dvarapala

This Dvarapala was captured at Lolei, a temple with large red brick structures close by to Preah Ko and Bakong. Dvarapalas are temple guardians, often wielding weapons and located near temple entrances.

Broken Statue

The head of a statue rests on the mossy floor of Bayon, casting a shadow in one of the temples' darker areas.

Bakong Roof

Bakong is a large pyramidal temple surrounded by jungle and sky. It's truly a surreal experience, especially with local religious ceremonies, drumming and chanting taking place.

Temple Tree

This tree reaches for the sky, grounded in Cambodia's Ta Prohm temple.

Bakong Temple

On each corner of Bakong there are smaller structures like these, each bursting with life.
