Aquamarine by Tuke

The artist was a native of Cornwall who died in 1929 at the age of seventy-one years. His twin abiding loves were the sea and boys. This caused quite a stir in Victorian and Edwardian England, but he was nonetheless a member of the Royal Academy. This one of Henry Tuke's last paintings and was completed in 1929.

A Bathing Group of 1914

A reproduction of "A Bathing Group" of 1914 by Henry Scott Tuke. Fascinated by the luminous effects of sunlight on bodies and on water, Tuke commented that he liked to work in the open air, on ‘quiet beaches, some of them hardly accessible by boat, where one may paint from the life model undisturbed’. He continued to work in this fashion for much of his life, painting images of male nudes by the sea and on boats — swimming, diving and lounging around.

Club Night

A reproduction of "Club Night" by George Wesley Bellows of 1907. This wonderful work is also known as "Stag Night at Starkey's" and is an early work of the American Master. Bellows was born in Ohio and moved to New York City at the age of 25. He became associated with the Ashcan School which advocated the painting of contemporary urban life. He won fame in that genre which he retained for the rest of life which ended in 1925. This is an early work which wonderfully displays Bellow's commitment to contemporary American life and recreation.
