'59 Electra 225

This image shows the front end of a 1959 Buick Electra 225 Convertible. The car was one of about 250 other vintage and special automobiles on display at the 2009 Concours d'Elegance held at Meadowbrook Hall in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The image was originally color but I converted it to black and white and then masked over the conversion to let the red stripe around the wheel show through. The conversion simply removed some color cast on the car and chrome as the car was white to begin with.

1936 Cord 810 S/C Phaeton

The picture was taken at the 2008 Concours d'Elegance held at Meadowbrook Hall in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The Cord is a classic, but what makes this car unique is the color. Hovercraft - 1939 Delahaye 165 Cabriolet

This shot shows a 1939 Delahaye 165 Cabriolet automobile on display at the 2009 Concours d'Elegance held at Meadowbrook Hall in Rochester Hills, Michigan. This automobile won the "Best of Show - Foreign" at this event and the ribbon is visible on the hood of the car. I named this picture 'Hovercraft' because the car appears to be floating off of the ground. The dark shadow and the low ground clearance of the car create this effect, it was not created in post processing.

Yellow Saleen S5S Raptor

The show always has a great collection of vintage automobiles, but in addition they also feature some truly high-end cars as well. The Saleen S5S Raptor fits that category to a T.

1933 Lincoln

This is a shot of a 1933 Lincoln. I took this picture at a recent car show. I was walking around and the combination of the colors of the car, the position of the taillight and the license plate caught my eye. I think it makes for a nice combination of elements.

'57 GMC

This is a shot of a 1957 GMC Truck taken at the 2008 Eyes on Design auto show. The color of the truck caught my eye and I really like how the chrome and black contrast with the turquoise color of the truck. I also liked how the reflections in the paint and chrome gave the image a certain 'posterized' look.

Duesenbird

This is a shot of the hood ornament (or mascot) of a 1935 Duesenberg Model JN. This particular mascot is known as a Duesen'bird'. The mascot was designed by Gordon Buehrig. I took this shot at the 2008 Concours d'Elegance held at Meadowbrook Hall in Rochester Hills, Michigan. This particular Duesenberg was once owned by Clark Gable. It was a gift to him from his wife, Carole Lombard. When she died, he abandoned the car and requested that it never return to California while he was alive.

Auburn Speedster

'39 Chevy Truck

This is a shot of the front end of a 1939 3/4 Ton Chevy Truck. The truck was part of the 2008 Automotive Hall of Fame Classic Car Show held on the grounds of the Automotive Hall of Fame. The Automotive Hall of Fame is located next to The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Each year the Hall holds a classic car show centered around a common theme. This year the theme was GM Century - The Men, The Machines.

Motor City

This is a shot of a custom 1950 Ford Coupe taken at the 2008 Eyes on Design auto show held at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford Mansion in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. The name 'Motor City' comes not only from nearby Detroit, but also the fact that the exhaust pipes remind me of skyscrapers in a city.

Buick Special

I didn't record the information about this car so I don't know the exact details except to say that it is a 1940's vintage Buick. The shot was taken at the 2007 Concours d'Elegance show at Meadowbrook.

The concentric curves of the wheel, with the chrome, color, chrome, more color, white wall and then black was quite striking. I liked the way this fit with the curve of the fender and the curve of the spare tire holder. The car isn't as dramatic as some, but I thought it was interesting.

Pierce Arrow Dashboard

This is an interior shot of 1920 Pierce Arrow automobile. The car was part of the Pierce Arrow Club's annual car show held at the Gilmore Car Museum near Battle Creek, Michigan. What I find interesting about this shot is the look of the gauges, particularly the speedometer. Instead of using some sort of sweep hand, it rolls up like an odometer (and tops out at 75)
