The village stands on a creek of the same name off the Chichester canal. An important harbour in Saxon times, it was where King Harold set of to meet William Duke of Normandy. The village church has the rare distinction of appearing in the Bayeaux Tapestry. Standing on its own peninsular, this is the place where legend tells us King Canute or Cnut tried to stop the tide coming in.

Surf breaking on rocks at Sennen Cove Cornwall

Surf breaking on rocks at Sennen Cove Cornwall UK

Bats Head, Durdle Door Dorset UK

Bats Head, Durdle Door Dorset UK

Was a busy coastal port from the Middle Ages to the mid 19th. century when it was an active harbour where cargoes like stone, coal, timber and pottery were loaded and unloaded.
The Village of Port Isaac, was frequently used as a 'set' for filming the Poldark series, and 'Nightmare Man' where it was beautifully depicted albeit as a village in the Hebrides! More recently the Port Isaac has become associated with the TV series 'Doc Martin' ( in which Port Isaac was tranformed into the fictional Port Wenn) and the Film ' Saving Grace'. Doc Martin a British television comedy drama starred Martin Clunes

Old Coastguard cottages at sunset, East Sussex UK

Old Coastguard cottages at sunset with the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs in the background. River Cuckmere at Sunset.
The name 'Cuckmere' is derived from 'quick mere' in reference to the fast tidal river flowing through the valley. The Pier was commissioned by the Worthing Pier Company and designed by Sir Robert Rawlinson. It opened in 1862 and improvements were made in 1888 with the construction of a 650-seater pavilion. It has been damaged by storms and fire over the years but the Worthing Corporation, who bought it in 1920, are considering several improvements.

Wheal Coates tin mine St Agnes, Cornwall UK

Wheal Coates tin mine engine house St Agnes, Cornwall
