Blue Jay

A combination of digital painting by mouse and photo manipulation (image from an original photograph as reference). Bluejays can be found from central Canada through the east coast of the US, and down to the Gulf Coast. An aggressive bird, it’s primary food is nuts and seeds. The beautiful blue colour and patterns make it a favourite among photographers and painters.

Goldfinch

A combination of digital painting by mouse and photo manipulation (from an original photograph) American Goldfinch: a common backyard bird in the middle-US states and up into Canada. The bright yellow of the males changes to a duller colour during winter months. It has a preference for thistle (niger seed) when feeding, and will easily be enticed to your feeders when they are filled with this seed.

House Sparrow

A combination of digital painting by mouse and photo manipulation (from an original photograph). The House Sparrow: a common backyard bird across North America, and Europe. Sparrows were imported from England to North America in 1850s. Commonly referred to as a house sparrow, it’s true name is a weaver finch. Their main diet is small seeds, and will often choose to feed on the spilled seeds on the ground, rather than the feeder.

Canada Goose

A combination of digital painting by mouse and photo manipulation (reference from an original photograph). The Canada Goose: Often called “Canadian” geese, these bird are not “Canadian”. They are found in almost every state in the US, as well all the Canadian provinces. Their food source is nuts and berries, as well as greens. Some geese will migrate south to warmer climates during winter months, though others maintain a year round residence in the colder geographical areas – particularly where there are food sources.

Bass Lake

Photograph: Bass Lake, Oro-Medonte Township, just outside of Orillia. Bass Lake is home to many cottages and year round homes, but rife with pockets of forest and other nature. Surrounding a portion of the lake is the the Bass Lake Provincial Park.

Docks At Orillia

Photograph: Port of Orillia – empty docks at sunrise over Lake Couchiching. Located at the foot of Orillia’s main street the harbour and waterfront parks are seldom empty through the summer months.

Orillia Wetland in Summer

Photograph: a portion of a large wetland pond along the nature trail system in Orillia. This area is home to aquatic animals such as beaver and muskrat; it houses turtles and frogs and provides home to ducks, geese and a variety of bird species. The train runs through the center of town, hidden by treelines and adjacent to Lake Simcoe. It is considered to be an environmentally protected area where there are varieties of tree and wilflowers apart from the ever present wildlife. On occassion, just near this pond you may also run across wild turkeys.

Country Roads Series, #1 - "In The Townships"

he first in a series of digital paintings and photo manipulations (from original photographs) of the countryside and roadways surrounding the Orillia, Ontario area. Oro-Medonte Township has a rich history and a beautify all it’s own – many hillsides and winding roads, some covered with a wide canopy of trees, some open farm country.

The Stephen Leacock Boathouse on Lake Couchiching, Orillia. Stephen Leacock, one of Canada's most well-known author's and humorist. His most popular book, locally, is Sunshine Sketches - the town in the book is called Mariposa, but it is Orillia. Stephen Leacock's summer home on the shores of Lake Couchiching, along with it's beautiful landscaped grounds are now a museum. The boathouse was reconstructed some years ago thanks to fundraising.
