I was looking at a lot of Giorgio De Chirico's artwork when I created this piece.

A Cycle

According to James George Frazer's book "The Golden Bough," one of the principles on which magic is based upon is the Law of Contact, or Contagious Magic. It was believed by primitive magicians that objects which had once been in contact with one another could continue to act upon each other at a distance after their physical contact had been severed. This belief appealed to me, so I felt the need to create something pertaining to it. In doing so, I decided to approach the subject in a somewhat humerous manner and out came "A Cycle."

Self-Portrait (Subconscious)

Vice (noun) – an immoral or wicked habit or characteristic. These are not necessarily a representation of my own personal vices, but I felt the inclusion of some of them helped create an intensity to the piece.

Sixteen (Self-Portrait)

A painting from the “Sixteen Series,” which deals with obsessive compulsive disorder (or OCD) and balance. A pattern is established between the left and the right: LRRL RLLR RLLR LRRL. Consisting of sixteen discreet actions or gestures, this order represents balance. I produced a series of four (four being a fourth of sixteen, and divisible into four whole parts.) In this self-portrait, these beings are connected to my left hand by an umbilical cord. The left hand, of course, is connected to the right hemisphere of the brain. This hemisphere fulfills the latter part of the Apollonian-Dionysian dynamic; it is the source of abstract thought and artistic impulse. I believe that the conflict between these two hemispheres of the brain is responsible for a significant portion of human history.

Also from the “Sixteen Series,” which deals with obsessive compulsive disorder (or OCD) and balance. This painting was also inspired by Howard Bloom's book "The Lucifer Principle." The Lucifer Principle is a trinity of things that drive the human race: Superorganism, Memes (ideas) & The Pecking Order. "Memes stretch their tendrils through the fabric of each human brain, driving us to coagulate in the cooperative masses of family, tribe, and nation." - HOWARD BLOOM

In folklore, lycanthropy is the ability or power of a human being to undergo transformation into a wolf. Although the term lycanthropy properly speaking refers to metamorphosis into a wolf, lycanthropy is in popular practice used to describe the transformation into any animal, even though the proper term is therianthropy.

Master, Get the Stone Quickly...

This image is an examination of the ancient surgical procedure known as "trepanation," by which people drill holes in their heads with the intent of "releasing pressure." Theoretically, this release stimulates the mind into well-being or even transcendence. It is the oldest surgical procedure known to mankind, and crosses over many cultures and ages.

Devolved Beings

This is a representation of a devolved being. He is dragging his knuckles, a signal that he has "returned to his ape form." On the other hand, he has devolved beyond the need for eyes. He wears a beard to accentuate his teeth and to intimidate predators or rivals, and evokes a return to the primordial mind, dictated by base impulses. He represents the lower emotions surrounding sex, violence and territory. He is a manifestation of the animalistic side of humans, still lurking beneath.
