Patriot's Garden

This photo was taken in 2005 of colorful tulips in a flower bed near the Washington Monument. Spring was in the air at the nation's capitol and flowers were blooming everywhere.

Maternal Affection

Mountain sheep in British Columbia. During a trip along the famous Alaska Highway, I turned a corner to stumble across a family of longhorn sheep. The group of shaggy animals was fascinating to observe and had drawn a handful of spectators.

This image was taken in 2004 of the bleak, eroded landscape along South Dakota's Badlands. The geography reveals a rugged character and layers of built-up sediment. A geologist's dream and explorer's nightmare.

Grey Forest

This shot from 2006 is of a section of Wyoming's Bighorn National Forest. At this time of year, most of the foliage had disappeared, leaving only a handful of colorful Fall leaves. Perched above the scene on a turnoff, the flowing stream produced a relaxing moment's diversion.

This 2006 shot from the Alaska Highway in British Columbia reveals the essence of the often frigid landscape. Here you can see forests of slender trees reaching towards the sky in search of light and nourishment.

When The Sun Touches The Earth

This fascinating image was taken in 2006 of a range fire near Carson City, Nevada. I captured the photo just was the sun was setting behind the hillside. It appears as a blazing globe through the dense clouds of gray smoke.

Imposing Nature

An amazing sunset image from Kansas City. On a stormy evening, I chased a rainbow to a nearby hilltop to take a picture. Turning in the opposite direction, I encountered this turbulent, multi-layered cloud formation. I've never seen anything like before or since.

Dark Energy

A 2006 time-lapse image of Niagra Fall in New York. Although the original shot was quite colorful due to an after-dark light show, this tinted version is much more dramatic.

Movie Monument

Iconic shot of Devil's Tower in Wyoming. Famous for its appearance in Speilberg's "Close Encounters". In actuality, it is a lava plug left in the throat of an ancient volcano. The volcanic cone surrounding the tower has long since eroded away.

Man-Made Mountain

A dramatic shot of Frank Gehry's extraordinary "Experience Music" building in Seattle, Washington. The bright sun reflected off the structure's shiny metal surface, causing the sky to turn black. A nearby carnival ride casts an elongated shadow.

Waiting For Spring

Another weathery image from the Kansas City area. I really liked the monochromatic composition the hill, sky and frozen lake made, plus the combination of textures. The centerpiece, of course, is the old twisted tree, which was removed later that following spring.

Washington Crossing The Hudson

A moody shot of the George Washington Bridge with New York City in the background. This scene of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline was taken from the cliffs along the Palisades Parkway.

Stark Scavengers

This minimalist image was taken at the edge of the Great Salt Lake. Although barren and harsh, some life thrives along this salty boundary. Simple in form, this shot reduces nature to its bare essentials.

Watch Your Step

I came across this abandoned building while exploring small towns in Eastern Kansas. The scene made me wonder what used to happen on the second floor. All that remains now is a distressed door, rickety platform and metal stair support. The angular shadows is what originally drew my attention.

I have always been fascinated by the shapes that man-made objects make. This grain processing facility in Michigan brings to mind the strands of a spider's web.

This shot from 2005 is of an abandoned pier in Traverse City, Michigan. Resting comfortably at the edge of the bay, seagulls perch on poles while searching for a delicious meal.
