Osprey Fleeing

The image was inspired by a poem, Longleaf Pine Fire, by Spadecaller: "Limbs burn feathers flare; Nests of ashes white and bare, Nubs of grass blackened shine, Unclasped hands of naked pine. Old foot paths left unseen Black charcoal rinsed clean. From charred ruins these trees grow high, Like phoenix rising from ash to sky. Behold, the longleaf pine is my life; Tried by fire and saved by strife.

Red-Tailed Hawk

The Red-tailed Hawk is found in a wide range of habitats, including deserts, grasslands, coniferous and deciduous forests, tropical rainforests, agricultural fields and urban areas. It lives throughout the North American continent. Because they are abundant and so easily trained as capable hunters, the majority of hawks captured for falconry in the United States are Red-tails. The Red-tailed Hawk also has significance in Native American culture. Its feathers are considered sacred by some tribes, and are used in religious ceremonies. I found this Red-Tailed Hawk in the thick of the forest near Lake Tarpon on the west coast of Florida.

On the west coast of Florida, the bald eagle thrives. The tall pines make great perches and nesting grounds for these majestic birds of prey.

Barns are never really abandoned. At least one owl always watches over it.
