The red London Buses, one major icon of this great metropolis in the UK. On this painting, our second painting in which The Shard is again is featured - you see 3 major London tourist attractions: The famous red London Bus, the new The Shard skyscraper and the Tower Bridge. The Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridget and is connecting the City of London with Southwark.

Regensburg Bavaria at Dawn

Today, we have another painting from Regensburg - with this painting we conclude our small double-feature. Some say, the view from the stone bridge to the old city is similar to the one in Prague, Czech Republic. And it is true, the stone bridge in Regensburg was a real milestone and an archtype for many bridges, built at that time (around 1150). To get a better impression, about the massive achievement: It was for 800 years the only bridge across the Danube in Regensburg, the construction took 11 years. There are of course some myths around the bridge. If interesed, find more about the legend of the devil, the bridge, the dome - and why the bridge has a hump. Our painting looks across the Danube, at dawn. It would be a good time to visit Regensburg in the coming weeks, as the "Christkindlmarkt", the christmas market gives the center a flavour of cinnamon, wurstel and gluehwein.

Venice from San Marco to San Giorgio Maggiore

We watched the movie "Don't look back now" from 1973, which plays mainly in Venice. The movie is very dark, gloomy and shows a Venice, which is rotten, dark, empty - and a mysterious murder is sneaking through the city. This frightening image is in full contrast to those, we got during our visit last year. Our painting now is more orientating on the positive views of venice and it features one of the most famous views, the view to San Giorgio Maggiore, a church and former monastery on the small island across the San Marco Bacino. This place has seen a lot of history, even a Papal conclave, electing Pius VII as Pope of the catholic church. In the foreground you can see a gondola, the famous boat from Venice, which is steered and propelled by the Gondolier. But now, enjoy our new painting.

San Francisco Market Street

San Francisco - Painted Ladies - Alamo Sq

It is probably one of the most famous views on San Francisco, the view from Alamo Sq, with the "painted ladies" houses in the foreground, and the San Francisco Skyline in the background. The "Ladies" are houses, built of wood in victorian style. Many of those houses have been destroyed during the earthquake and fire 1906 - some have survived, luckily. There once was a nice little hotel on Page St., which has closed recently. It was the best experience, sleeping in one of those victorian wood houses. Labyrinthine corridors, creaking wood, perfect beds, nice windows ...and a perfect and opulent breakfast. I ll never forget, and this painting and the background story. Enjoy it.

It is a spectacular building, the recently opened The Shard in London Southwark. With 310m it is one of the talles buildings in europe and definitely a new icon for the London skyline. Although there were some middle earth jokes running through the web, as some see some similarities with Saurons Tower in Mordor - it will be another tourist magnet for London and a photo must for any photo addict. But it is also a must for painting it. There are many interesting views and lighting conditions. Especially in combination with the famous London Tower Bridge. The last time I have been to San Fran, I ve fallen in love with this amazing city. I left San Francisco very sadly and many views and images have been in my head since then. Again and again searching: What view can be worth painting. What view is special. And now, some views made it into a final selection. The first one is a very special one. This view, was the last view, before leaving the city, southwards to L.A.. It is the view from Twin Peaks, Christmas Tree Point at dawn, direction to Downtown and Ferry. Many generations have viewed this special place at the S.F. Bay from this point. The indian tribes gave this place a special name: Los Pechos de la Choca. Find out what that means. So that is the first painting from our San Francisco Series, more to follow soon.
