The Conductor

I found a very old score of Bellini's opera La Sonnambula. It was falling apart, pages missing and not worth restoring. The 150 year old paper however had a wonderful character. So I decided to paint a series of musicians on the old paper. This is a fine reproduction which retains the look of the original, especially if you choose the Somerset paper.

Edward Elgar, the very English composer. If you have ever watched the Last Night of the Proms on TV you will have heard Land of Hope and Glory with all the flag waving - hence the Union Jack surrounding the portrait! The central portrait was a 2 plate etching and the surround was a collagraph print. The whole was printed on Somerset paper and the size of the original image is 12 x 12"

The original was an etching with a collagraph border 12" x 12" and was printed on Somerset paper. Therefore I recommend that Somerset be the paper of choice here in order that your print can be as near as possible to the original. The background lists some of his better known works including "Peter and the Wolf" - there are wolf prints in the border!
